How to Tell If Your Scooter Uses SCS, HIC or IHC
How to Tell If Your Scooter Uses SCS, HIC or IHC
Compression keeps your fork, headset and handlebar secure. Incompatible compression may create play, noise or prevent correct assembly. SCS, HIC and IHC use different components, and bars, forks and clamps are not universally interchangeable.
SCS
SCS combines a clamp and compression system. It is widely used for strong street and high impact setups. It normally requires a bar without a slit; a slitted bar may need cutting or an adapter, depending on the setup. Check standard or oversized bar diameter. Many SCS clamps include a shim, but compatibility varies.
HIC
HIC normally uses oversized slitted bars, a shim over the fork and a clamp holding the bar. It is common in strong, relatively simple setups. Confirm bar diameter, slit and fork compatibility.
IHC
IHC is a lighter system common in complete scooters. It usually uses standard slitted bars and thinner forks designed for it. It suits lightweight, responsive park setups. Confirm compatibility before mixing parts.
Identify your compression
- Check whether your clamp is a large four-bolt SCS or a regular clamp.
- Look for a slit at the bottom of the bar.
- Check standard or oversized bar diameter.
- Identify your fork and compression bolt.
- For a complete scooter, look up the model's specifications.
Common mistakes
- Buying SCS for a slitted bar without checking.
- Buying an oversized bar for IHC without the correct adapter.
- Buying a regular clamp when SCS is needed.
- Changing the fork without checking compression.
Before ordering
Send photos of your clamp/bar and fork/compression, your scooter or current parts model, and the part you want to change.
